The Wedding of Meredith & Steve
Meredith & Steve were married on a hot summer day at The Four Seasons. Just as so many other couples are doing these days, Meredith and
Steve chose to part with tradition and see each other before the ceremony, and did the "reveal" at Homestead Park in Hilliard. It was so pretty
and we took lots of time for a wonderful little "photosession" while we were there.
Meredith had so many wonderful little personal touches to her wedding day - from her different pieces of jewelry to the flowers to the jars of
pear jam which she presented as favors... here she describes this in her own words...
"My hairpiece was a vintage belt buckle from the 1950’s that Steve bought for me for our 2nd anniversary (guess we’ll have a new one of
those in a couple of years). My necklace was custom made by the same jeweler that Steve had make my engagement ring. After they
made it I added my great grandmother’s broach to it for my “something old.” I wore a bracelet from my good friend Tiffany as my
“something borrowed” and wore vintage earrings from the same place Steve bought my hair piece.
I loved the idea of having a dress that no one else would ever have – and I loved the trend of one shoulder dresses. However, I didn’t
want to be too trendy so I decided to go with a classic strapless dress for the ceremony and spice it up for the reception. I took the shawl
that came with the dress, cut it up and made multiple individual flowers out of the silk. I added pearls, crystals and beads left over from
the belt that was attached to the dress and turned it into a strap that I wore for the reception.
My college roommate – Kristen – was a fashion design major (and is currently an amazing fashion designer) and over the course of the
three years we lived together she would ask my opinion of the different designs she would come up with. For my graduation she presented
me with a hand drawn picture of a wedding dress that incorporated all of the characteristics of designs I had told her I loved over the years.
The most special of those designs was a cross that was stitched onto the back of the dress. I cherish that drawing to this day and really
wanted to incorporate the cross into my dress. With more of the extra silk and a lot of pearl and crystal beads - I found a design that I liked
that resembled a cross and beaded it onto my dress. My uber-talented mom helped with the final touches in making sure it laid exactly
where I wanted it to when I had the dress on.
As for any of the other personal touches – just about the entire wedding was a DIY affair with the help of many amazing family and
friends. My mom (with a little help from my dad) made over 200 jars of pear jam for the favors (my great grandmother’s recipe) as well as
the program fans. And my aunt Cathy put together all of the flowers for the reception tables and the ceremony aisle. Steve and I designed
and made all of our save the dates, invitations and place card pinwheels. We also made the pillows for the fireplace, cut and frayed all of
the burlap table runners, spray painted and created the table numbers and cut and hand painted the signs for outside the Four Seasons.
And Steve designed and built the arbor that we were married under."
